Cowboy poetry

Lynn Brown

He sat at the bar,
Bendin’ over his beer.
We’d all gather round,
His stories to hear!

Bout them old days a ridin’,
All them old cow trails.
Stories about livin’,
Before highways and rails.

Times when them fences,
Was way far apart.
We’d listen intently,
To the wisdom he would depart.

He rode the range,
When times were good and bad.
But those were the best times,
That he’d ever had.

A son and a daughter,
He had along the way.
A wife who left him,
Cause of his wonderin’ ways.

Hard work he did plenty,
Probably more then his share.
We’d listen intently,
And wish we were there!

His hands they was bent,
From rheumatism and hard work.
He was tough and crude,
But if’n you needed it, he’d give you his shirt!

Some said he was,
Just a lonely old man.
But we all knew him,
As a tough old hand!

Now he might be old,
But he’s still tougher then nails.
Ask any fella,
What got whooped all to hell!

He’s special to us all,
A cowboy through and through!
Ain’t nothin’ I can think of,
What he couldn’t do!

On his face he did carry,
Scars from years spent outside.
Buckin’ the weather,
Never losin’ his pride!

Ain’t none of us could,
Hold a candle to him today.
A cowboy’s cowboy,
He’s still to this day!
