Puppeteers

How long will we allow
     the puppeteers to rot us?
We pledge on with undying
     patriotism, worshiping our colors
     allowing one administration
     after another, to mask the
     face of war

Oh but there are many masks!
The liberation of helpless souls?
An untimely defeat of a race
     cleaning fascist?
To rid the world of terrorism?

Unmask our villain
Look deeper
See why our brightest return
     soulless, hoping only to
     go back to their gods
     where the drug of immortality
     is handed to them smartly

The hit of deitism, a remedy for
     the side effects of carnage
What lies beneath the mask
     of mass casualty, burned
     innocence and loss of
     morality?

Look deeper
What do you see?
The viscous dark Satan
     that powers our gluttonous
     pilferage of the mother's bosom?
Advanced political agenda?
Secured global economic interests?

What price will we pay?
Will we do as the Romans to
ease the pain in our greedy
     stomachs?  Will we reenact
     bloody crusades in the name
     of our gods?

Our history books have done nothing
     but tribute our addictions
No mention of a lonely soldier's
     death, unclean and lasting
     an eternity, or innocent corpses
piled higher than the self doubt
     of their accusers
The rapes, the lies and the rich

How long will we allow the propagandic
     artists to paint beautiful table
     arrangements over a canvass of
     rotting bodies?

How long will we allow the war machine's
poets to spin rhymes of freedom
     over the wails of displaced
     children?

How long will we allow the state's
     musicians to harmonize their
     patriotic march with the cackles
     of gunfire?

When will we begin to look
deeper so as not to encourage
     our own destruction, as others
     would have it?
