Writing is...
Current mood: awake
Category: Writing and Poetry

Writing is both selfish and selfless...It's the ugliness that lies beneath your skull and the ability to create beautiful images for others to relate to. It is both your guts slashed open in the form of verbs, nouns, and punctuation and presenting to others the superficiality you want people to see. Writing is hideous. Writing is sublime. Writing is perceiving yourself capable of an original thought and then finding out that there is no originality left in the world. Writing is an ideal and a passion. It's an obsession and an addiction. Writing is the words you could never bring yourself to say out loud sounding better on paper. Writing is a lover, a friend, a confidant, a worst enemy. Writing is laughter through pain. Writing is heavy breathing and soft whispers. It is torment and destruction. Desecration and enlightenment. Writing is always leaving room for more, and always being full. Writing is gluttony and starvation rolled into one. Writing is an exercise in hope. It's a grasp at a better reality. It is both senseless and sense in a senseless world. It's letting your mouth write a check your ass can't cash. Writing is the tanguble proof of what you are capable of and the intangible reality of what you can't acquire. Writing is seeing yourself for what you are. Writing is creating in your mind a much better version of you than you will ever be. Writing is shit. Writing is useless, meaningless, hopeless. The bottom of a wishing well. Writing is divine.

I think you summed it all up perfectly. When people ask me why I write, which nobody has ever really asked me, I have to say that I don't have the foggiest notion other than I'm addicted to it. Like you said, "writing is shit". I don't know what intrigues me more, that it is "shit" or that it is "divine", the former I am closer to than the latter. Great piece that nails it down.
