So when is it not enough?
Iíve been reading poetry here for a while,
Rarely ever seeing anything
Drop below a 9.887.
Whatís the criteria?
Whereís the challenge?
Okay, great, he spoke his mind.
Ten. Beautiful. So sad. Really moved me.
No grammar rules, no spelling rules.
Itís all self-expresion.
A bad rating could mean a personal grudge,
I wouldnít want to express that.
Here, no solictors coming after you
with a $170 valued silver bowl,
Complete with your name engraved.
The trip to DC is only $280.
Net gain of negative $110. Why not?
Whatís bad here?
If it offends you, what does it matter?
That gets a two.
Itís written badly, but I like the idea;
Itís great! Ten!
Thereís no encouragment in criticism,
No encouragement at all in honesty.
Friendship is more important,
Relationships donít need communication.
Ooh, this one! This one! Itís a 10.5!
Oh, thereís no eleven. Oh well.
Canít understand her,
her ryhme scheme keeps changing around.
But itís all good anyway.

My sediments--zactkly! Seriously, I wrote a similar request to the forum and brought on a firestorm accusing me of crimes I didn't know existed.
To get ahead here, you have to suck up, like the teacher who gives good grades and gets Teacher of the Year.
Your idea is great! Your poetry fails to get it across. Next time put some fire, sting and irony in it.

|I give you a 5 because of your message.Bravo! This is not poetry in my opinion. The way a writer gets better is under the fire of revision and crit.Don't pat me on the head like I am a dog and say real nice work. That lie will not help me.If we wish to make this a credible site we must take responsibility.Be honest in your number rating but always explain why. Also a word of encouragement as not to diminish a writers hope.|

|I think this is the best read I've had this month. It deserves a 10, but I didn't want to offend you! Written well, just enough over-the-top. By the way, you're right, don't buy their bowl. I have a Tupperware bowl I'll carve your initials in for $15. It has only been SLIGHTLY melted in the microwave. It still holds soup ;)|

|I give everyone I read a ten for I am not an editor as such. My comments will clue one in as to how excited I got over a write or not. If the write is that bad or I disagree with it I do not rate it and move on. I have my place here as contributing and encouraging others in their writes. Eventually one who loves to write will continue to read others while learning and, in turn, improve. I will not discourage the beginners when they could someday be a great poet or writer. This is a family at Authorsden and I will strive to maintain those good ties while watching others soar through support and inspiration. You can help more in private messages than in reviews. By the way, this was a pretty decent write too...and like you said..."It's all good"
Peace be with you and continue writing, my friend.

|Editors can be found almost anywhere, encouragers are more scarce and precious! I would rather be an encourager to raw, emotional talent and let someone else correct the typos and misspells, but to each his own I guess!|

|At least nobody here wants to buy their own bowl of poetry trophy. If you hang around here long enough, you will know how the rating system works. It's the comments that counts, the ratings means nothing, they're just numbers.|

|Hah! I have just given a couple of 9's. I think it's fair enough that I had given.
But then again I agree with dreamweaver, the ratings down mean a thing, it's the comments and the responsibility of the giver to explain why he/she has given it less than 10. It's better than giving 10 and to say nothing needs improving.

I automatically give everyone a ten, the ratings don't mean much to me. I look at the comments more.. For me, if I read something that I find some typo's that are really obvious etc. I private mail them and make my suggestions that way..
