In this Simple Moment

Palpable images on a cold and windy day

From out the kitchen window
No other house I see
For now I can imagine
There's just my wife and me.

We moved here from the city
Two hundred miles east
To build a richer, fuller life
Or find some peace at least.

Back Creek Mountain and The Knob
Stand guard off to the west
Against great tribes of warriors
On their marauding quest.

No, I wasn't here O Lord
When first the settlers came
Through fears and dangers, death, and want
You knew them each by name.

Tell me Lord, if I can know
In our warm humble home
What was it like for those brave souls
Who came here all alone.

They trusted in Your goodness
And left familiar lands
They called and cried and prayed to You
Their lives were in Your hands.

This is not a time, You know
Of faithfulness or good
If only You would show me how
I'd change that if I could.

But in this simple moment,
It's quite enough for me
To marvel at this world You've made
And Your great love for me.
