Theme of wind farms and the changing landscape.

Lincolnshire Wind Farms

Tick Tock Tick Tock

An epoch
Of giant clocks expand
Across the sea and land
Swallowing nature
In their impatient spin
And rapacious span

A meadow
Of metal petals
All planted in a row
Are flowers in the wind
Petal propellers spinned

The noses
From a squadron of spitfires
Routed and earthbound
Have nowhere to go
But a mighty draft
Their noisy turbines blow

A fleet
Of alien aircraft have landed
In a field of wheat
Their egg-shaped engines
Sit in feathery clouds
High up in the sky
Their giant feet
In rolls of hay below

What do they lay ?
When do they sow ?

I tread
Lightly as I return to track
While nearby
A swarm of starlings
Swoop and sweep and swirl
In cartwheel curls
As if reclaiming back their sky

First published in 2011. Has had a recent revision and has been published by my local press, Louth Leader, in Feb 2014. To be published by Forward Poetry inside the anthology 'Off The Page - A Collection Of poetry' this summer 2014.

Brilliant work Jane, I'm going to put the metal petals stanza in a blog message and post it with a link here, see if I can get you some well deserved traffic.

I sense a bit of consternation with wind turbine technology. Yes, it is a bit alien to see, but unless we greatly reduce our consumption of electricity or come up with other ways of generating power cleanly, a far greater disaster than the imprint of wind farms on nature will occur.

Your visualization is spot on.

Anyone who sees a squadron of spitfires and alien aircraft while looking at wind turbines is OK in my book. Well done, JA.
