The life of a woman
by Letia C Gathright
Monday, June 04, 2007
Rated "PG13" by the Author.
This is what it feels like to be a woman in today's society. |
|
You’re either too thin or too fat.
You’re either too tall or too short.
You’re either too dumb or too smart.
You’re either too talkative or too quiet.
You’re either too opinionated or don’t think for yourself.
You’re either high maintenance or not feminine enough.
You’re either a good housewife or not marriage material.
You’re either too independent or a gold digger.
You’re either too nice or too aggressive.
You’re either too pretty or not pretty enough.
You’re either not assertive enough or a bitch.
You’re either a breeder or a spinster.
What if for a moment we as people, men and women, stopped placing labels on people based upon our own assumptions or society’s standards?
What if we were just allowed to be who we are?
Whether we choose to work or go to college or do both.
Or if we choose to marry, have children, do one or do neither.
What if we just chose to be ourselves and make no apologies?
What a different world this would be if we lived life the way…

amen indeed! You have touched one one of my pet peeves in this wonderful piece of work.
If society were to have its way, we would all be carbon copies of one another...and how boring would that be?
And the funny thing is...men are beginning to fall under the spell as well...the ads for hair, cologne and other "male enhancements" are becoming more and more prevelant.
This is a splendid write, lady poet. |
