STEPHEN GILL TO BE HONORED
Stephen Gill, who was to be honored in 2002 but could not go, will be in England in the first week of September to receive a doctorate from Ansted University at the convocation to be held on September 6 at Metropolitan University in London. He will be honored for his writing and deep involvement in human rights issues. The citation would say in recognition of his exemplary contributions to literature and commitment to the promotion of world peace through his poetry and other publications. Stephen Gill has been appointed as Ansted Poet Laureate. He will chair a multinational poetry reading in the evening after the convocation. The confirmed participants in the multinational poetry reading include Dr. Roger Haw ( Malaysia), Dr. Dana Barry ( USA), Dr.Stephen Gill (Canada), Dr. A.S. Guha (India), Dr. Tom Conway (Ireland), Dr. Herbert Blankson (England), Dr. David E.A. Crowther (England), Dr. E.C. King (UK), and Professor Dr. Ribas (Spain).
Stephen Gill has received international awards, including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal; Sahir Award of Honor from Sahir Cultural Society, Panjab, India; and Pegasus International Poetry for Peace Award from Poetry in the Arts, Inc., Texas, USA. He has previously been honored with two doctorates.
Stephen Gill has authored more than twenty books and his poetry and prose have appeared in more than four hundred publications, mostly in Canada, the United States, India and Pakistan. He writes poetry in Urdu, Hindi and Panjabi languages also, though the main body of his work is in English. A famous singer from Pakistan has provided music and sung some of his Urdu/Hindi poems in an album called Aman that means peace in English.

This is a wonderful honor. Laurels must feel good! Congratulations to you. Blessings to you for using your way with words as a means for the desire for peace. I can't imagine what it must be like for the powerless people of your country in their persecution...like many other nations. I admire poets who are constructive rather than destructive and use their gifts to pave roads to freedom. Seems this is you.
