 Rainbow Friend

Come on down
Rain and fall,
there’s food to grow
—enough for all—
and thirst to quench
let it drench
my dry palate.

Come a-calling
Rainbow friend,
bring some color
to us again.
A parti-colored covenant
(God’s pact with Man);
an arc across the firmament.

Come on out
Sun and shine
(let ultraviolet light
and mist combine),
nurture the failing flowers;
the fruit on the vine
and the pigment of the leaves.

I can taste the rain, see the rainbow and hunger for it all as winter hangs on. Great poetry.
