Fleeting Dream

a poem about my beloved.

I have wandered through the mirth and mire of life,
a phantom passing unseen among the living,
shrouded in darkness, courted by sorrow.

I was born the moment You murmured my name.
Fire and ice coursed through my veins.
I was set ablaze by Your burning eyes.
Your wintry touch tempered the fire into a slow, cold burn.
I was molded into a creature of pure joy-
A being filled with the blinding radiance of the sun reflecting
   off the ocean.

With one smile my breath was caught-
With one word my wits had fled-
With one brush of Your hand my earth foundations crumbled-
and with one obsidian glance my heart was forever lost.

Fleeting was our dream.
Always destined to wish impossible things.
For although we belonged together,
In this lifetime You were never mine to hold.

My heart is left drowning in shadows,
breathing in this melancholy,
stifling in the still air that remains,
and burning in longing.

When night veils the land,
And sleep temporarily soothes my shattered soul-
I dream of Your cool arms around me,
Your coal black eyes glittering in the darkness,
and the love that awaits us in the twilight realm.

Interesting and sensual contrasts of opposites. The tension powerful. Liz
