Pegasus -- A Dragon's Tale

For hundreds of years tales of dragons have been told and cherished. What child hasn't wished to have his or her own dragon or to fight the great fire-breathers? <..

so suddenly

how short

this excursion

life

when yesterday

tides of youth

were so close

to shore.

believing

postage of hearts

and letters

sealed with kisses

to perfume waters

of the salted sea

for only one

would know eternity.

and then miscast

the moon

or so

of sixty years

in shadows

to part the waters

of inseparable souls.

once on leave

to meet

later to leave

one love

of two hearts

lost

until now.

together

this Christmas

far above

yuletide colored stars

stranded

beyond houses and trees

on earth

to glance down

remembering

those yet sailing.

small ships

chosen of two

who gave

familial light

and forward looking

to a time

when all will be

together above

in moments

of angels remembrance.

and waters

wholly unified

this family

midst winds of change

timeless

will amass

horizons of the heart.

So sorry I'm late getting here, John, but I wanted you to know
how much I admire this beautiful poem, this excursion into your
life, your heart, your sense of self. Excellent. -gene.

John, powerful my friend. To the staccato march of your terse descriptors this reaches out and demands attention. Faith flows from every line. This is a fine rendering filled with compassion and deep understanding of spiritual commitment. I bid you love and peace my friend. Jon Michael

How your images strike, John!
In short pithy lines they sit up and demand notice, and rightly they receive it for this is writing of true quality, top drawer.
It's good to see you back after so long, I missed you.

John, it was good to see you back and posting on AD.
This is a very special poem for rarely do you see such beauty and mercy
in a poem.

Your poetry brought tears to my eyes...Feeling as though I intruded on hallowed ground/water with your sharing of such private thoughts as these, yet feeling honored that you would share such beautiful words and feelings with us. The picture you create is a restful, hopeful one of joy, not melancholy...

So good to read your words again, John! May you have a wonderful Merry Christmas full of joy and may the coming year be full of many blessings.

Hi John,

Strange how I posted a poem on AD yesterday and you today. But as usual, yours far surpasses mine in poetic beauty. To me, "Match Mate in Heaven" speaks of the advancement of aging, the passing of youth, separation of lovers, and then being together for an eternity, since theirs is a match "made" in heaven. Stay well, John. Thanks for causing us to think. It was so good to read you once more.
