Tiggy was about 12 yrs old and adopted us when we moved here on the farm 10 years ago. She was in a very poor state of health having lost a lot of her coat and had a horrible habit of spraying everywhere. She was miserable with all the other cats on the farm and just wanted some TLC to herself. So she found us and became a beautiful cat with a glossy coat, just like velvet to touch.

What Tiggy might have said to us

I’ve had a great life

For eight years or so

But now I must tell you

That it’s my time to go

You’ve given me plenty

Of your time and love

I really do thank you

(From somewhere above)

I know I’ll be happy

To run, jump and play

Doing things I was good at

For many a day

I was looked after well

You both made sure of that

So sometimes I did feel

I was more than a cat!!

I loved the coal fire

Of that there’s no doubt

And was always upset when –

It had to go out!!

While you went on the Cruise

I stayed round at the Vets

And I was rather spoilt

In that Hotel for Pets!

I missed you of course

But I do have to say

That I was made a fuss of

By the end of each day

I’ve had a great life

I know you’ll agree

So enjoy yours until you –

I-sraeli Syndrome by Albert Russo

Alexis, who grew up in Rwanda-Urundi, is the son of an Italian Jew and a beautiful mulatto woman. As a young adult, he now ponders over the complexity of his roots: African-Europea..
