Lay the lilacs at His feet, your penance,
as the wet grass kisses each staunch headstone.
Caress the rain soaked cross as you slow dance

Donít forget your past wish, what you did once,
standing there, the knife pressed close to your bone
Lay the lilacs at His feet, your penance

Drew the point Ďcross your skin through a thick trance
You shared the bare sky in secret, alone
Caress the rain soaked cross as you slow dance

Ask for thistled censure, His harsh sentence.
Wine drenched words will instruct you to atone,
So lay the lilacs at His feet for your penance

Listen to the calm, lyric rainís cadence
Your bitter bloomís spiral dance is not yet done.
Caress the rain soaked cross as you slow dance

Take one sanguine look back. Lotís wifeís last glance
Shadowed by the cross, nearly became your own stone
Lay the lilacs at His feet, your penance
Caress the rain soaked cross as you slow dance
