For all those veterans and those who didn't return.

WE ARE

From Lexington to Baghdad
and places in between.
Our men and women, to us unseen,
stood proudly to repel the foe.
Oft maimed or killed
defending you and me,
on this great land
and far across the sea.
They died or limp today
as we proudly say,
God Bless America,
the land of the free.
It’s not been easy
to stand the ground!
We’ve made mistakes
of which we are not proud.
Still we stand true
for we fight the fight
for the Red White and Blue.
Those stars upon that banner
contain those missing souls.
Red’s the blood they shed from
their many wet foxholes.
But pure is the white
that we strive to be
for people all over the world
like you and me.
Yes we often cry for those
with whom we can no longer be.
We are
the United States of America,
the land of the free.

Cliff, this is really beautiful. Patriotic and so true. Great job. Glad you're exercising that talent of your after a dry spell of not writing.
