Discovering fire with my new found friend
Passion is akin to gasoline, ether, cosmic molasses
Passion is in his Independence Day song
Makes me feel like the sparks that fly
A spectacular show in the midnight sky
Hula hoop noise man, the ruler of 4th of July
Firecrackers bursting late into the night with
A baroque fierceness that penetrates
Our hearts as well as our ears
So loud! I can hardly wait to
Be that music once again
To flow like sound waves in the rain
Outside, where we venture to
Be a part of it all and
To find a man
Uncle Sam! Right outside our door
Stumbling towards us
Reaching out his hand
That holds a thermos full of soup
He clumsily places it in
My friends hand
“Drink this.” slurs Uncle Sam
“All the madmen and artists
put their minds into this broth”
Music played and fireworks burst while
Me and my new found friend laugh
At the beauty of it all-the poetry of
Our surroundings
“No thank you,” my friend says as his
Nostrils fill with a freshness- popcorn freshness
“Hear that tune?
See these children?
This is the clamor of the world
Coming unglued
And then back together again
We have no need for your broth
Here “
My friend says with that familiar passion
He knows we are all mad
He knows well
That we are all artists
Oh, me and my new found friend
What a message we have to send

Independence
Courage
Strength
Joy
All the things that make such noise
Unglued and put back together
In a single flame of passion
Exploding like a perpetual firecracker
With my new found friend
Everyday is the 4th of July

*****Written by Farrah and Japhy passing a notebook back and forth blindly.*****
