your eyes soft, inviting,
deep pools of brown,
I imagine them sending
messages, clouded invitations
to dance, moving together
in rhythm’s of the night...

your voice, a welcome respite
to the day, your smile,
deep throated laughter
delights, enchants me
when we speak...

we were young, innocent,
15, 17, running through
meadows, laughing at sunlight
on our face, oblivious
to what would come,
beyond circular edges
of 'tomorrow',
forever changing
the lives we knew,
people we were...

we made love in a barn,
hidden among hay,
on a dock by the lake,
far from prying eyes,
in my mothers car,
where your period
ruined seatcovers, as
we laughed at
the experience...

now, you are here once more,
all around me,
touching, holding,
walking in, out of dreams
at night, wandering by,
extending, withdrawing
hands I held,
pursing, relaxing
lips I kissed,
sending shivers up my spine,
warmth to my core...

you work, I work, staying
busy with distractions,
oblivious to any world
but that before us
in the 'now'...

no tomorrows, yesterdays,
only a 'now' where emotions,
feelings, are saved, rendered
to obligatory personnel
who march before us,
to tunes we do not know,
hear, or understand...

you are happy
'for the most part',
although a long pause,
a slight sigh,
gave cause to wonder
of validity or avoidance
or realities...

whatever it is
matters not, for
I am happy you are here,
once more a part,
even a small, minute
part of a world we
knew long ago...

but I wonder,
if talking to you,
laughing with you,
dreaming of you,
will be enough??...
