Portions of a Whole

I knew it was an elephant
but those small puzzle segments
gave me headaches
sprinkling my eager await
with denial that the pieces
would ever be put together
So I played with it daily
making sure to save my progress
and hope that maybe one day
I might see the final picture
Weeks became months
that I’d put it aside
watching life’s living go by
thinking of the plies and badger
…most days it didn’t matter
If I had nothing better to do
I’d gather a lone space and migrate
my wander to a soundless study
I often thought
in my lost state of calm
my dad or mom had to be lifeless
why this and no action figures
or toys that made noise
I had the bearing of poise -ness
my parents lo and behold had to be
the worst to have chosen this
the wild forest
caught amidst the suns and the trees
momma elephant
bathing her young in the spring
…and wow of all things
I started to grasp beyond distortion
formulating this portrait
still in portion of it’s whole
…appreciation for what was
stroked my shoulders
til the soldering of each region
reached completion
I’d spent more than one season
focusing on the bigger picture
and now I savor its all
…depiction and labor
ecstatic thru the pleasure
that sees it all together
…that’s nice
and isn’t that life?
