I cannot explain this in too great a detail, for it is a subject of exrreme poignancy and I am a hopelessly weak person who clings to an example of rare goodness and pure loving regard for others like any fool born into the sad, tragically complex and unending sorrow we call life. Suffice it to say, this was someone who was an important inspiration for me in my own life, as well as for all the Hawaiian people. Although gone now, she lives on in the hearts and minds of all of us who came to know her, either directly or indirectly, and she remains a most exquisite, brilliantly beautiful flash of golden sun against the shades of that uncertain Universal Night that awaits us all...

HAUMEA'S RAINBOW

She passed over that water way

Of wild ocean that calls each of us

Away from life and takes us home

To the unseen Ultimate Mother

Of All Things, 10 long years ago.

I didn’t know her then, this icon

Of courage, strength and spirit.

Years after her crossing that bar

I learned of her example, her trial,

The burden of her knowing her life

Would end too soon, too very soon.

She had a warrior’s heart and mind:

Strong aloha that surely would survive,

This brave and beautiful woman!

I could not share her sadness then,

Or her pain, until well past the end,

But found myself amazed, touched

To experience the legacy she left

To all who remain behind, alone.

I think of her now with grief and love,

With inspiration too; her memory

Lingers on in all of us who recall

How, when that far shore summoned,

She departed, gracefully, lovingly,

Courageously, her journey ended

Yet also begun anew and afresh.

Left for us now are the warm memories

And the spirit of loving aloha she shared

With all who came to know her.

10 Years ago she left the shore,

to swim those unknown waters,

Becoming Haumea’s sister

Of the ocean rainbow…

...beautiful remembrance and appreciation for one who inspired you...and it is proven in your words here. They flow as if you had shown us the sunset of one traveling upon waters...who turns to look back at you...and silently waves.
beautifully written...

Truly a powerful piece. Deep appreciation and undying love clearly stated, though sorrow remains in a way not many know.
Lovely!
