beautiful nature

it happened a long time back....i was only a boy....

it had been raining for a few days running..solid as......

it was dark and stormy and the wind was blowing in gusts...

we were down by the riverside watchin the storm, having escaped away from home it was oddly peaceful watching storms....

this one was far from peaceful though....it was raining very hard and that wind seemed to be getting worse by the minute...

remember watchin the river surgin with the rainwater and then seein it dissappear behind the teeming rain....

rainin so hard i couldnt see through it very far at all...

it was raining so hard we couldn't see more than a hundred feet or so...

we were lovin it....

sittin soaked to the skin beneath a rock overhang out of the wind

lookin out at this fierce storm and laughing...marvelling at the power of it...

we loved the rain

what were we doin out in the storm?....a young boy?

well we had run away to escape being abused and had at first been extremely anxious..

but being out in the storm excited us...we ran about feeling the heavy rain pound against us, the wind driving it with great force...

and then the rain got harder....and heavier...the strong wind made it sting bare flesh ...we ran to shelter laughing..

and there we were....beneath a rock overhang....soaked but happy

grinning at the rainstorm.....

much time passed...the late afternoon sky darkened the sky even more..

lightening started to spark here and there..

and deep....rolling thunder that rumbled the ground beneath your feet...

the wind howled and grew stronger each minute..

the sheer power of that wind began to worry me though...

it was gettin late.....be dark soon...hafta go back,....sigh

then a loud cracking sound....peering out we see a tree

one big humungous tree....flying....a big old fig tree flew about 30 yards !

far out....that was deadly!

we look out across the hill....trying to pick the line we'll take..

then with a big breath we run from the shelter...

the instant we leave the shelter of the rock ledge the wind throws us through the air...

we fly about 20 feet then slide another 20 in the inches of water flowing over the grass..

we struggle up....laughing at the storm, and run again...

this time we let the wind lift us and we run with long loping strides that seem to take huge strides with the wind assistance...

but the rain is so hard...its almost hard to get a breath

and the wind so strong it makes the rain hurt as it hits us

we break stride and run behind another big tree

it is large...and the brief break out of the full strength of the storm finds us gasping for air....drenched and heart fast beating with excitement

there is a terribly loud thunder clap....and then a lightening flash..

then another thunder clap, even louder...

we try to peer out from behind the big ol' tree we hiding behind but the rain and wind are so strong its hard to see well, the sky is gettin darker and the thick , black clouds make it dimmer also

other trees we can see look like ghostly shadows....they dance an eerie song, howling and swaying against the stormy onslaught

all this fascinates us, excites us....but it is also now scaring us a little

never seen no storm like this fella...wow....it is amazing...

then there is a very loud thunder clap, and a lightening burst that strobe lights the surrounds ,...stark images....like captured screams

we see a tree burst open and half of it collapse to the ground..

our eyes feel as big as hubcaps....

our grin a mile wide....now that was deadly!.....( ignorant of the pun then)

but...time to go!........and we do the bolt ....trying to run and keep our feet

the ground has inches of water teeming over the grass making its way downhill towards the raging river....

we have to lean hard into the wind and "tack" ( one for the sailors)

our way across the open ground....a few times getting blown off our feet

the rain was unbelievable....like a monsoon...it almost wasn't raining, more like a gazillion taps left open....pouring rain like i never seen , even to this day

another tree looms in sight and we weave a wobbly route over to it....

crouched behind it we get another brief respite...a chance to breath air instead of water

still we love it....it scares us plenty now, the ferocity of the storm....

but we are scared and also greatly thrilled by its power...

then , as we sit crouched behind that tree in this massive storm, we see another dreaming

we are Boogoodoogada, the rainbird, in our sprit..

a totem, like the rain....the rainbow....our totems...

we see that old yinaar , hear her talkin, singin...

they are rainsingers , her people, family

then we are back in the now again...

storm raging all around us.....

we strain to hear her song...

but the noise of the storm drowns out everything else

....it feels odd, like being deaf again...( dad had once perforated my ear drums with blows, rendering me temp deaf for several months)

feels like my ears need to 'pop'...the noise is huge

my hearts racing now with the thrill of it all....

its like the storm daring me to try, just try it mate, try to get home...i'll drill ya, blow ya away...

we laugh loudly....we think....we can't hear it!

we yell , scream against the storm......and fall back laughing because we cant hear it....

wow....deadly storm cuz....brilliant!!!

we are almost tap dancing, we cant keep still....its so exciting...

then we hear the biggest thunder clap ever....and the lightening "flashes"

tho' it was weird....saw a flash an then it kinda went "black"...

dont know how to describe it.....remember thinkin "black lightening, far out"

maybe like starin at an old photographers flashpop....the afterburn image...no....well....anyway

my ears buzzed and my skin felt 'fuzzy'....and at that moment we turned to run...

took a few steps...

a bang of thunder that actually hurt and a flash....

we was flying ....arms and legs flailing away like widmills...

skin felt like sodapop....buzzin with foam...

all my hair felt "on end"....

musta went at least thirty feet ( gale force wind assisted...he he) or more

one moment running....then the ground 'lifted up'...and we were in the air....

and laughing, never laughed so hard as that....

so....then we are flying through the air like a boomerang...

and a moment later...( felt like a long moment...)

we are heading for the turf.....we hit it slidin on hands and belly

glide / slide / wind blows us....another several yards....

we tryin to get up....gettin blowed / pushed along the grass...

the water is deeper than my ankles....

its scary but just so amazin gettin thrown along by the storm...

we finally gets our feet under us and run to another tree...

heart smashin our ribs like wild surf we look back

that last tree we were behind aint there no more....just a smashed smoky stump..

we look about for the tree.....

its in front of us!....well....behind us from where it was...

guess we hit the ground before the tree did...wow...deadly...

grinnin like a banshee we look for another route to take....its not far up to the road now...

lookin out....tryin to see in the gloomy darkness it had become we could just make out a building ....about a hundred yards or so....maybe

then another lightening strike...not close enough to throw us in the air again..but very close somewhere...the noise was deafening

we suddenly felt ill...

ears buzzin....skin all pins n needles like....belly upset....

headache.....

decided then it wasnt so funny...

and ran....just ran....full on ...

the moment we came from behind the tree the wind tried again to drill us....

the rain hammered into us...

we ran

another lightening strike and massive thunder...

something behind me...to my left groaned then cracked...

another huge tree crashed to the ground just ahead to my left....we swerved to avoid the branches flailing about ....

aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

at least that what we remember sayin.....he he

then our feet touch the road......and we break immediately left along the road...

a building looms up....a nice solid building....

we run to its corner and turn ....

immediately we are protected from that smashing wind....

our heart hurts in our chest its beatin that hard....

we make our way along to the next corner of the building...

we can see the main road now....

an older man struggles to walk against the storm....

he walks like he's trying to force open doors...

then he gets blown down....and slides about 20 feet on his back!

a few men come out of the shadow of another building and help him up....

they all move back inside again....

not far home now.....guess its now or not

we run.....the wind immediatly smashes into us again...rain hammering away....but we keep running

after a few turns the buildings start to shield us a little...

we run faster.....

then we arrive home....

dads waitin....

uh oh.....now the real storm....

now we scared.......

right about then we notice how sore we already feel all over...

start to cry....

cause it about to get a whole lot worse....

so we go in....

out of the calmness of the galestorm....

into the maelstrom awaiting inside...............

later doooods....

peace, love, happiness and harmony

G
