If you want to walk on water
You've got to get out of the boat
Scared to death
I can't even float

Will I drown
Or will I shine
Perhaps I'm just simply
Wasting time

Others set beside me
Watching - what will I do?
How deep is my faith
Do I believe Him to be true

Once again I hear Him softly call
Will I step toward His mighty hand
Will I simply be a boy, or truly a man
After God's own heart

Reluctantly and yet with joy
I put my foot into the deep
Amazed at the power of God
Thankful I don't sink

I continue toward Him
Intent on His smile
The wind blows, my focus shifts
It seems between us, more than a mile

I cry out
And He reaches out His hand
Realizing in my own strength
I'll never be a man

With His gentle power He steadies me
As we climb back into the boat
I know now that without God
I can't even begin to float

Then another realization
washes over me like the waves
This is a crisis that I must fact
Not just once, but day after day

As I have to resolve daily
To heed
His words
"Take up your cross and follow Me."

It's time to step out of the boat.
