All the stars are on fire tonight
streaming through heaven on wheels of light
Unaware of the world below
they tumble across the night, their tails aglow
And I, the insignificant, lift up my jaw
to watch them dance, then burn up and fall
Never quite reaching, they all disappear
and fall apart in the atmosphere
From the corner of my eye a blazing white
A comet painting a streak of light
I can almost touch it, I think in my head
I reach out to grasp only air instead
Yes, all the stars are on fire tonight
I watch their cosmic bodies ignite
on a midnight blue canvas, leaving a trail
of shimmering dust, a comet’s tail
