It all depends on how you look at things.

Differences

My feet hurt, my mind aches.
Sometimes it frightens me to think
there might be a connection between the two.
I can hear old friends

telling me that I'm doing okay,
using the same stale words I used
when I lied and said everything was okay.
It surprises me that they cannot hear

the reverberations, those echoes in my mind.
But when I spoke,
I carefully selected words
that all related to, harmonized with

and described a particular past.
I thought my friends would
knew the difference
between then and now.

It's important that difference,
that distance.
