This was written for anyone who has experienced a painfully one-sided, unfailing love for someone else.

Elizabeth Doe

Won't you let someone in and love you?
I reluctantly still do.
Expecting as little as possible
Enjoying as much or less you give.
Maybe it is because I once saw you
Behind your guard.
I've hung on
To every empty word with promise
Forgiven every heartache.
Followed you like a wandering helpless child.
For goodness sake
You've been strong enough for
And against us all:
The star
The advisor,
The judge
And jury,
Pseudo matriarch...
Cowardly wizard,
You are...
Holding back to the very end!
You need love like water
And yet you've never seemed to budge or let on.
I feel as if I'm consumed in your drought.
You beg for love, as I do
But refuse it.
I embrace you still,
With your fragile,limp reply
And when you fall
I will be mercifully there for what is left of you.
Laughing and crying
Your name
