A tasty poem for all ages!

Sammy's Super Sub Sandwich

Sammy Sawyer was the super sub king,

making subs was his favorite thing.

The kids in school would laugh and make fun,

because Sammy was different from everyone.

Even the towns people thought he was strange,

but the next day at school things would soon change.

The teacher announced to Sammy's dismay,

that their school would host a parent's day.

"We'll have a contest from far and wide,

with a ribbon to wear for the very first prize."

Well Sammy decided that very same day,

that he would have a sub sandwich display.

As the judges went from stall to stall,

they came across Sammy's the last one of all.

Sammy was nervous as the crowd gathered around,

the room was all hushed, there wasn't a sound.

"The first rule of thumb before you've begun,

is to make sure you have a super sized bun.

The bun is the basis to build you sub on,

so I usually start off with at least a foot long.

Next is the butter, I spread it on thick,

with ketchup and mustard as my next favorite pick.

Pineapple and pickles, I add lots of these,

with peppers and pastrami, if that's what you please.

Onions and olives, they give it some zest,

the next few ingredients are the absolute best.

Spaghetti and meatballs with meat sauce and stew,

make the sub extra thick and enjoyable too.

Bacon and beef, chicken and rice,

are important flavors to make it just right.

A sub needs green lettuce and diced up potatoes,

roast beef with gravy and mashed up potatoes.

Mushrooms and cheese are the last on the list,

so I shred them up thin and I spread them on thick.

Then a shrimp on the top for decoration and color,

makes this a sub unlike any others.

Then I spice up my sub with pepper and salt,

I shake it all over, so it's covered throughout."

The crowd stood in awe, they were proud and so pleased,

then someone in the audience suddenly sneezed.

The sub which stood over ten feet high,

started to sway from side to side.

The crowd in a panic scattered all around,

as the sub came crashing right to the ground.

The people stood in shock with the sub all a strew,

then a sound from the back suddenly grew.

It was laughter from judges and parents alike,

for the mess from the sub was a hilarious sight.

The judges came forth with a ribbon of gold,

giving Sammy first prize for the town to behold.

Everyone learned an important lesson that day,

that people are unique in their own special way.

The towns folk discovered Sammy's talented ways,

the day he had a sub sandwich display.
