Wrote this after some of my friends were being called up after 9-11.

Hear things have gotten rough
I got my orders today
They’ve called my unit up
I’m shipping out in a day or two
I wish I had more time
My country’s got some fighting to do
And they want me on the line
Knew this might happen soon
Ain’t nobody’s fool
Nobody ever drafted me
To do what I have to do
Before I enlisted
I had college on my mind
Now my country’s got some fighting to do
And they want me on the line
Calm your fears, dry your tears
One day, one day, I’m coming back
Then we’re gonna pick right up
Before there was Iraq
A husband and a father
Got to leave you all behind
‘Cause my country’s got some fighting to do
And they want me on the line
