A poem about realizations during a sales pitch.

Passions

Some thing’s
Make no sense
But isn’t that the way

What if everything
Made sense?

How boring
And life can be
Just that

He began talking to me
Probing
Delving
Insistent

Insidious

Questions about
Income and job
Satisfaction

My answers
Made him churn with
Anticipation

Words like

Dissatisfied
Empty
Pointless
Lame
Incendiary

(Head tilt)

I knew what was coming
The offer
Something about
An online mall
A mall?

I listened dispassionately
Watching
Body language

Gesturing
Animated
Tiresome

I smoked one cigarette
After another
Thinking about latte’s
And faces of my past
He looked at me
With deep probing

“I can see you’re thinking
HARD about this OPPORTUNITY”

I looked past him
A couple was lost in
Passionate kisses
Unaware of his
Great proposal
No need of
Financial freedom

I exhaled a plume
Stood up
And smiled
Without malice

Remembering
My own moments
Of passion
Not so long ago

And walked toward
Starbucks and laundry
Realizing
Life wasn’t boring
At all
