The Love of a Woman (for a Man)
What is a man without the love of a woman?
His is a half life; sad and cold;
Whether young and in his prime or old
There is no substitute for a woman’s love.
Who is there to tell your triumphs to
And share your burdens and sacrifices?
Cheer you with compliments and surprises
And make your effort so worthwhile?
How will you fill the lonely evening hours,
Drop in at the library or drink with the boys?
What is a man's life alone, when shadows fall
And there is no joy in coming home at all?
The shiny car, the electronic gizmo, the hi fi and tee-vee;
They don't live and breathe and laugh and coax.
They have no needs that only you can fill.
Any others can serve them if they will.
But oh, the one and only special woman at the gate
Whose heart rejoices seeing you and the joy
As she links her arm in yours and up the path
She wants to know all you did that day
And share her day with you.
Each one lived for that part of the day.
Neither drinking pals nor gizmo can offer that.
The hours you are apart are lived for her
And knowing she is doing so for you keeps you going.
She sees herself as part of you.
When a woman's love comes to a man
His life becomes meaningful.
No more he needs to pretend he's got it made.
He has.
And in the special times of celebration;
Celebrating is only celebrating when with her.
You cannot find greater joy on earth than that.
The best part; a man receives more of God's love
Through the love of a woman than in any other way.
