H James

Suddenly awoken from another vain attempt to find peace in slumber
Tears fall silently, forming an ink blot pattern on my pillow
Each droplet completes the indelible mosaic of pain
Passion remembered pervades; refusing denial of what once was
Happy memories of times shared together demand recognition
And succeed as you face appears so clearly as if by magic
Never changing, your smile – infectious in its innocence spreads
Instead it is I who now bear the signs of passing time allowing the memories to fade
Each night you return to me and bring me comfort; yet you are never really here
