Killing is the Sport of Generals.

Our kids are dying to come home
and when they do
I feel quite sure
they’ll never again roam.

A crazy man was killing
all his people off somewhere
our kids all knew they needed help
they packed their bags and headed there.

They weren’t raised
to be cruel or mean
all they knew
was what they’d seen.

A loving home
a land that’s free
a way of life
the way to be.

We dreaded the day
they went away
feared somehow
that’s where they’d stay.

And many did
down through the years
and justified
our many fears.

This world gets crazy
now and then
the call goes out
to America’s men.

Our daughters too
now walk strange land
they answered the call
to lend a hand.

Too soon again
that same old fear
kids who never wanted to roam
are again just dying to come home.

How can this be across the sea
strange people that we’ll never see
can take so much
from you and me.

So short a time ago it seems
boys n’ girls—giggles n’ screams
just having fun
so full of dreams.

Now lying still
their end of toil
life’s blood draining
on foreign soil.

Through distant lands
they wander and roam
and each—young and old
just dying to come home.

Which way shall I take the course to my reader’s hearts,
What scale and tools do I collect with,
What voyeur’s wrap I claim in readiness.
Are the ages of my father come to bear,
Or will be for next generation’s benefit:
And for sure hope luck to smile a lot,
Unless I weaken in devotion,
That I harbor this pretext,
Where course is subject to a wanton age.
Gather, flock with us; examine all to beyond:
Valiant person have surpassed our time.
