A special poem for a special Lady.

I picked a purple rose to-day
And as I caught its sweet perfume
I saw thy lips in the petaled lei
Soft-smile amid the bloom.

My senses opened wide for thee
And would not by effort close,
Thus, I bowed in humble glee
And kissed thy purple rose.

Then I placed it in a vase
And hallowed it with prayer,
And while I mused on its grace,
I vowed to leave it there.

I see its beauty as thine own,
For like a rose thou art,
A kindred rose quaintly grown,
But with a poet's heart.

Kissed I thy rose with very love,-
And when the nightfall came,
I gave thy purple rose thereof
Thy sweet and lovely name.

And since, alas, thy rose must die,
And fall in disarray,
I shall bring thee, by and by,
A purple rose bouquet.
