Fear me not
Fear me not for my looks
Hunger has made me seem ugly.
Fear me not for my garments
Being poor has made me ragged.
Hate me not because I beg
Human iniquities have left me impoverished.
Despise me not because I'm a destitute man
The greedy landowners possess the land.
Do not judge me a criminal for I am untidy
The dirty streets have given me an unlikeable make-over.
I am like you who has all the senses
So why are you scared of me my fellow man?
I walk the street in misery
With my head wearing a crown of shame.
I am a king of sorrow
Everyday is a challenge to me.
God created us equals
But man has made us unequal.
Christ blessed me with love
But man has cursed me by a look.
Fear me not my compatriots,
This is my plea, for I am the same as you.
