On It Goes

So many months have passed

And a dark cold wind yet blows

Others move past it, while we will not

And on and on it goes

So many turn a blind eye

See only what they want to see

Ignoring the day that echoes yet

For so many futures never to be

Weeks and months and years have passed

And still that cold wind blows

Others move around or past it

And so on and on it goes

Do they struggle to not look behind them

Do they close their hearts so they do not have to feel

Do they try anything to avoid the subject

To never face it so they don’t have to deal

Life, of course, much march on

But the memories of those lost march too

You can fight not to believe

And hold that shackled fear deep inside of you

Turning that blind eye

Seeing only what you want to see

Ignoring the day that lives on in many

So many moments now never to be

And so the months may pass

That dark wind like a siren blows

Rolling through me like a thunder strike

And deep inside I know

Turn away if you have to

Look right through if you must

We’re still waiting for the fires to dim

For an end to the embers and dust

And if you will forget

What you never really knew

If you never felt the sting of tears

And the hurt of a heart turned blue

Then you will go on as if it never happened

You will never see that truth

You will see only the sun in the dark

You will not know you never had to choose

You can stand at a river of blissful ignorance

And drink until you’ve had your fill

Then turn and walk away from an invisible past

Towards dreams hate did not kill

You’ll walk on with a heart that’s not heavy

With a soul that may hold innocence still

You may turn away from them

While some of us just never will

Weeks, then months, now years have flown by

A dark wind builds and ultimately blows

Millions have turned and walked away

And on and on it goes

This made me think of history and how it's made. It's like saying "History moves on no matter what."

(((cade)))

thank you for reminding us of that awful day, when innocent lives and seemingly unpregnable buildings were brought down or damaged in a rain of terror.

you've captured so many people's actions today in compelling lines, such as

"...turning that blind eye
seeing only what you want to see
ignoring the day that lives on in many
so many moments now never to be..."

and

"...turn away if you have to
look right through if you must
we're still waiting for the fires to dim
for an end to the embers and dust..."

(((cade))), believe me, i will always remember and never forget. although i didn't lose anyone, i know people that did. my heart breaks for them.

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. *tears*
