Anonymous Faces

Anonymous faces
Stare at me
Then go home
To their TV
This cold bench
Is where I stay
Wonder if I'm
In the way
Hunger ravaging
Deep in my gut
Infection in
A ragged cut
Only coldness
All around
Lonely makes
A hell of a sound

***********************

Anonymous faces
Rush on by
Not seeing the
Tears I cry
The pain of living
Is too much
I ache for one
Tender touch
Every day is
Always the same
Playing the
Survival game
Walking these old
Streets alone
Hope and will
Are long gone

***********************

Anonymous faces
They don't care
Smell of chicken
In the air
The world is swiftly
Moving on
I'm standing still
Existing alone
No bed to sleep in
But a cold ground
Nothing to eat
But some scraps I found
I don't own much
Just the clothes on my back
A lifetime of living
In a paper sack

Linda, I admire poets who use the pen to be a voice for those whose voices would otherwise be lost in the fray of modern society. Good work!

Hello Linda. Touching piece. I feel sorry for people like this and try very hard not to get this way myself. There's a thin line. A lot of them have drug and alcohol problems. love&p. G

Linda, I jsut posted a song/poem that fits the man in the picture. Most pass them by and take little notice. You look at them and care.
I see them and know it could have been me. Stop by and hear the song of one of them. Your friend Bill

yours is such an awesome pen
I think yours has all the ink,
I read your words, my eyes do tear

they feel and hurt and blink.

(((linda)))

heartbreaking, compassionate--i once was there. don't want to ever be there again. may be, though, if things don't improve :(

it can happen to ANYBODY--no one is immune to homelessness

and our government doesn't care. (as long as THEY aren't there)

(((HUGS))) and thank you for a most needed piece--which everyone in higher offices should be forced to read

love, karla. :(

People living like this is a hard truth in life. The difference here is you are someone who is willing to believe it. Many people would not and prefer to ignore this situation. I admire that you refuse to let their plight go unsung.

Oh Linda.
God bless you for seeing not just what everybody wants to see, but what people need to see.
And for hearing the cries too often missed.
I wish we could save the world, but you push us all to make any difference we can.
Awesome poetry.
