To all of our collective Mothers, related and otherwise.

1/8/2006 Note: The original poem remains in audio; however this poem was revised on 1/7/2006 because of a wonderful young 95 year old beauty named Mary H. Grimes Beatty. She is a wonderful mother and mentor to so many and this poem has been revised in honor of a request for me to recite this at her surprise birthday party! My pleasure Sis. Beatty! You know how to 'keep it real!'

Priceless. . .   by cynth’ya lewis reed

In re-dedication to Sis. Mary H. Grimes Beatty

Presented to Earth on January 6, 1911

when God bless’d us with life in this human race,
He bless’d us with Mamas all over the place!

some were relat’d, yet others were not;
a few we adopt’d but most. . .we just GOT!

got' em from church homes; got ' em from schools,
and some by the warrant of  Neighborhood Rules;

some came by marriage; others by birth,
still many unknown to us rest ‘neath the earth;

we learn’d priceless stories their of sorrows, of woes,
we learn’d how to heal--how to fight all our foes;

Their lessons of life rupture floodgates of tears,
resplendent their wisdom transcends all our years;

These Queens are OUR Mommas to cling to, and hold,
Supreme & Magnificent, they will never grow old.

May God bless you richly Sis. Beatty!

Priceless indeed Cynth'ya...and how very
lucky are we....the ones who were fortunate to
have a real mother.....and many others who
attached themselves to us....In all reality...
I mostly was mother to all.....seems I do the
job of nourishing well and gathered many many
children....(grown up ones) LOL...this was lovely..
