Alone in a Room

I lie here alone in an empty bed
Past regrets and recrimination, enough said
My long-time lover is alone downstairs
Dreams exhausted, thereís nothing to share
Tis sad that we two live in this empty house
Where once kids laughed and played about
Somehow I think I might adjust okay
Even though thereís nothing more to say

The room is bare with only a bed and my paper
My thoughts now my ally, as my love tapers
The solitude is peaceful for reclusive reflection
When once we stood affirmed without rejection
Disappointed, yes, but not pessimistic
Our emotions scattered in a world now mystic
Somehow I must stand firm and do this alone
To repair my psyche from a love overthrown

The sheets are crisp as a sun-burnt leaf
This new fragrance is all but brief
Lingering aromas supplant your musky scent
Where once we bedded together for a time well spent
Sorrow, yes, but not depressed
Where once I watched you innocently undressed
Somehow I must conquer my fear
Of being alone from one so dear

The walls are bare, signaling beginning or end
My mind drifts until sleep ushers in
Time plays tricks as darkness descends on me
A dorm room appears where once there was glee
Discord, yes, brought us to this point
Like a tornado unleashed upon two conjoint
Somehow I must fight my desire
To rekindle the flame and fan the fire

The darkness slowly turns to light
A new day dawns to remove the fright
Now time is my ally, I shall join its flow
Take me anywhere you want me to go
Uncertainty, yes, but Iím less in control
Where once I stood firm, I have no goal
Somehow I will survive this lonely ordeal
With Godís mercy I can begin to heal

And heal you will. Deep wonderful memories of apparently not so long ago, but too long, for you need and wish for their return.
