Concealed by Prideful Need

cerebral death- noun: death when respiration and other reflexes are absent; consciousness is gone; organs can be removed for transplantation before
the heartbeat stops

CONCEALED BY PRIDEFUL NEED

To carve a smile thru wax mask
And socket punctured eyes
With holes to breathe pure air at last
Expressive frozen sigh

In textured smoothness, contoured plane
Possessive right.... of  self
Avoiding warmth by solar bane
Locked in the darkest cell

Inhaling midnight's coolest breath
By shadows blended leagues
Beneath the mask....cerebral death
Yet surface sight.....deceives....

When all is lost, yet heart remains
By legacy of deed
For deep within a madness reins
Concealed by prideful need

You know why I like this - because it says the basic human in us all
can persevere past all the pain. After the chips all fall down, we will move on, one way or the other. And hopefully, its the positive way.

It truly is falling down and getting up.

T Y sweety -- now where's that pale of water. ;o)

this poem reminds me of venice, a place supposedly of dark channels hidden misery. I saw the carnival masks in warm sunshine though.
