Poets Nobody Read

inspiration comes from many sources. . .

they were cheap:
five bucks a bag.
castoff from
the public library.

poets nobody read

their books pristine
after years of circulation.

for the jackets peer
earnest hopeful faces.
faces full of the flush
of accomplishment
and
the expectation of fame

poets nobody read.

i wonder

was the act of creation
reward enough?

perhaps
the act of creation
coupled
with the consummation
of publication
perhaps
that was
reward be enough

or,

perhaps,
the expectation of fame
remains
an unfulfilled
and unreachable goal

who can say?

John,

I would suspect that the deal scored makes the goal fulfilled. As the new owner of the books opens the pages and reveals the love, commitment and enthusiasm of the poets on the pages - no more do they live in obscurity! Well done.
