Watery underworld welcomes me,
takes me in like an old friend.
I cease to swim, surrender now
to liquid dreams, sink into
Take me, take me down; I’ve no memory
of piercing rays or hope that
blinded dark sensibilities.
Render me a misfit, fish
out of water.
Let me lie ensconced on ocean floor,
shipwreck treasure hidden in
mounds of shifting sand, happily
forgotten, buried oyster
without a pearl.
Then, when ultramarine waters have
rounded off sharp edges let
whipping whirlpool suck me up to
sunlit sea for continued
Gentle waves shall rock me as cradle
lulls the babe to sleep, and soon
I'll find my heart and learn to feel
again. Grace shall do its work
Blossomed sky of beauty shall unfold;
sun shall envelop me with
light energy, push, propel me
upward, outward, onward toward
Now watery underworld beckons.
Unafraid, I know fright’ning
descent shall be followed by a
life, pearly white.
