Deathís Door

Weep not for me, for I shall be
Forever still in this hospital bed
My eyes fixed on the transparent object
Just out of reach, never to teach
My children to play in snow and rain
Tis never the same for the unlucky lame

Tubes for feeding and excreting
People in blue move about me
Unconcerned for my soul within
Iím confused by the news
That I will not leave this place whole
Forever bedridden, never forgiven

There was a time when I was fine
I ran with my children with joyful noise
Before the fall I received a call
That the love of my life had taken flight
To places unknown without warning or comment
Such a shock to leave her flock

Time slows down for those in a gown
Tied at the back without human dignity
My body immobile despite the surgery
To reconnect nerves for my body to preserve
My children stare at a man they once called father
Once alive, I fail to thrive

Donít cry for me, let me be
Away from here to a place of brilliant light
My eyes will see Godís glorious kingdom
With streets of gold as is foretold
In the floppy book with earmarked pages
Iím ready now to take my bow
