Vacation doesn't make a lot of sense without control over one's time and activities. Our 2003 package vacation to Florida turned out to be a complete mess.

Vacation station

Letters, calls and blablabla

Zero service deal

Tired Arrival

Looking for smiles and gentleness

Standard size bedroom

Alligator land

Towered by plastic castles

Ephemeral fun

Sunny booze beaches

Where naked ham and bacon abound

Oblivious summer grill

A spicy normal life

Can beat a stupid beach vacation

Brain power of joy

Nice poem, Franz. I am a Florida native. What you describe is the exact same thing that a tourist from the "real world" would experience at the tourist traps that abound in Florida. You weren't exposed to the real people and the real Florida. I don't consider "theme parks" real Florida, nor do I like to be anywhere near them.

Been to Florida, but on my terms, in a motorhome with my car attached, went where I wanted, one theme park enough, beaches boring, still like NJ beaches, but a bit brisk in winter...go again, on your own, rent an RV or something like that...Peace, ED & Rufuz

I guess its been too long since I had a vacation; doesn't sound all that bad to me, but all I need is water and someone to love on. :)

Great rant and message, Franz. I like to stay on the mountain. Home is best for me. Love and peace to you. Regis

LOL, living a few miles from Disney World I can tell you this, <I>"will all tourists please stay home, you are ruining our serenity." </I>

I agree Franz...I want to make my own plans

I appreciate the vivid warning you set out in these cleverly
disguised bursts of anger, Franz!
I think I will go to Italy, instead.

Good piece of writing!

Thanks for reminding me never to go to Florida again! I had a very similar experience. I much prefer the wide open spaces of the West and Southwest.
