For Aretha on her twenty seventh birthday...

It's your first birthday,

Without Nonna

There to celebrate with you.

A year of hard goodbye's

( Your twenty sixth year)

Now behind you.

A year of fighting,

And tears,

Of reconcilation,

Of death,

and of Birth

A year of standing beside a bedside,

Hands linked,

In the midst of a family war

As we said our last goodbyes,

Putting our differences aside,

Learning to say goodbye,

And learning forgiveness,

Without a word being said....
