Based on the Dante Gabriel Rossetti painting of the same name- 1877

A single pomegranate
cut open,
its flesh the color
of my lips.

Only six seeds,
temptation clutched
in my fingers.
Only six months,
Hades my home,
then a return to earth.

Pluto has gained
all he desires
from my mouth
wrapped around
this firm
fruit.

Shadows plan
for my dark days
in the
underworld.

The sunlight
reminds me
of pleasant days
to come.

I am at peace
with this,
at peace
with my choice
to bite from life,
and chew on its
pink flesh.

Adonis,
the growing ivy
steals the days
with its slow crawl
over the walls
of my lonely
heart.
