what an affliction

whether it be
alcohol or drugs
can't you see
how it bugs
and hugs
the "I" out of "Me"

an affliction
a reflection
of who we are
and who we ain't
we don't be no saint

whether standin' at the bar
or drivin' our car
takin' a toke
of that illegal smoke
or puttin' it in our veins
or up our nose
who knows?

but it sure brings pains
drives' you insane
scrambles' your brains
and what do you gains
except lost membranes?

what an affliction
and that ain't no
that i do know

been there done that
addiction ain't where it be AT
and that's the Fat!

maybe it's women with a big bust
for whom you lust
you think you must
have or have not
still ties you in a knot...
and in the end what have you got?

not a lot.

what an affliction

a reflection
of our defection
from Life

ain't no fiction
it will cut like a knife.

Wow Steve, you hit the nail right on the head,I don't know from first hand experience but I know one or two who were there too and they called it like you just did, this poem should be sent to many places that help folk give up addictions,it would help many.
A great poem with wise insight.
I hope all is well in your corner of the world.
