Blood red horizon
developed quickly,
foreboding crimson sky falling,
leaking innocence.

I knew carefree days
would be redefined.
From one period to the next,
this new life would flow.

Butterfly women
we called ourselves then,
winging awkward transformation,
bleeding, becoming.
