A Lesson in Manners

I never waited my turn
Never stood in line
Demur and lady-like
Waiting for love to come my way
I grabbed and took
Selfish and greedy I was
Wanting what was mine
And yours too if you looked away
Never wondering at the consequence
Never suspecting the cost
I took with very little giving
And these days I find myself alone
Standing in more lines than I care to mention
If not lady-like, at least resigned
To what my behavior has brought me
I grabbed one too many times
And this time I came up empty
I should have remembered my manners
As my mother tried to teach me
Never take something that isn’t yours
Someone else will just take it from you
Just as easily as you took it from her

Sue, I applaud and admire your honesty! We all have our lessons to learn and I know of no one, who ever listened to their mothers advice until after the fact;-)...Btw...it is excellent advice and I'm glad you're passing it on, in the last 3 lines of this superb poem!!
