An Island unto the Self…

In the south pacific I do be,

On an island of palm & coconut naturally,

Here I come when the world gets too depressing & unhappy,

This is my escape, on an island I could own on the side of the lee…

No storms do approach,

Nothing stronger than a thunderstorm with minimal reproach,

No creatures do live here, that I do not allow, never seen is a roach,

They do not live here as I refuse to let them do so, they do not on my paradise, encroach…

No winds do come,

No hot sun, only fun,

The ocean sparkling without predators,

The beaches of white sand, clean of mans usage,

A place to sit and watch the seagulls as they do soar…

Allowed only are the remnants of mans of society,

The fringes of his beliefs, the outcasts like that of me,

Can you understand where it is I am living; can you just imagine and see?

This is MY place, MY last refuge, where the world can take a crap,

And I will live here with only my dog and my lady,

For the end of the world will have no meaning,

How can it, as we live without the strings of mans destruction constantly…

Ah, Ed, this one resonates... How wonderful to have such a retreat! Untouched islands in the South Pacific can be very lovely, healing places indeed. Don't you just love all those warm seductive lapping waves?

Very nicely penned verse. Much enjoyed the reread.

Deep and extremely well written. Do you remember the song, "I am a rock? " I use to sing that a lot think of myself being an island.
