Been Visiting an Old Sweetheart

Named Elizabeth the last few days

ďJust living is not enoughÖ

One must have sunshine,

Freedom,

And a little flower.Ē

Hans Christian Anderson

I can hear her calling

While Iím fast asleep

Her beauty is tremendous

My love sheíll always keep

Iím happy when Iím with her

Iím very sad when I must leave

Time away from her is dreadful

It offers absolutely no reprieve

I excitedly awaken

At the very crack of dawn

Within only a few minutes

Iím up and dressed and gone

As I rush down the road to meet her

I hear her whispering in the breeze

She murmurs that sheís missed me

My pending presence makes her pleased

She knows that I respect her

And that my love forever will be true

She knows that when Iím with her

My heart and soul are never blue

Soon I reach her dwelling

And I rush to leave my car

I scurry down a wooded path

Knowing now she canít be far

I pass a tiny babbling brook

That meanders so serenely

I even hear it welcoming me

As I listen very keenly

Soon the giant pine trees

Are welcoming me back too

And my heart is now soaring

Like an eagle in the blue

Suddenly the forest erupts

With melodious bird songs

Even they have welcomed me

And for their music I have longed

Iíve finally reached her enchanting side

She quickly fills my heart with pleasure

She is my gorgeous tiny wilderness lake

The end of the rainbow Ė a real treasure

My lovely Lake Elizabeth is located Ė somewhere in the northwoods.

I found her many years ago on my wanderings,

And Iím constantly drawn back to her side.

Luckily, Rebecca is very understanding.

She doesnít mind sharing me with Elizabeth at all.

When I started reading, I actually thought that you posted a love poem, though you just stated you never did so.
What a surprise.
Nice write.

Ed, this is an exceptionally well-penned timeless treasure my friend. You are either freighting me to death with those Loch Ness monsters or the haunting stories or warming my heart with these priceless pieces of stunning poetry. Thatís a good thing too Smoochy Man. You help keep it well-balanced, life that is. Thanks for sharing your work and the wonderful slices of your life. Take care. P.S. I also like the BUG stuff too!

Two lucky ladies, indeed, Ed, for you must be one of the most dear and committed "lovers" on the planet! And they are not even rivals for your affection because each has their own place in your life. You are indeed blessed to be so fulfilled with not only one deep devotion, but two!! Thank you for enthusing and warming our own hearts to your great loves, too! Energised writing that spreads the "feel-good"! TY Kate xx

Most men should share this kind of priceless "mistress"
with their wife, instead of being hooked by some human
who cannot begin to compare or compensate for.

BTW...was it Lake Elizabeth where you left your tennies?
Heee heee....

ED,
This one took we right along with you for the ride and I hope you didn't mind as this place of beauty I understand how it hooked you.
We all need these places to retreat to and relax and find things in our inner souls.

This is wonderful Ed.(Although I agree with Katy;-) You make me long
for the place we used to go in Wisconsins north woods. I may have mentioned before the island my brother-in law-family owned we had to leave our cars in the woods and take a boat to the island where they had a main cabin and 5 smaller ones. We stayed in the main one and had some of the most wonderful times I can remember! It was near Hayward

Ha! I knew something was up... knew and expected a surprise.. and when it came, I was already completely immersed in the poetry itself, so you "got me" anyway... I could fill space with words (never doubt that) but two seem to fully explain the experience of reading this: A PLEASURE! You do this so well, Eddie K... sooooooo well. You always, generously take me with you. Thank you. katy xox.

I know exactly how you feel. I just got home from vacation where I visited my childhood home . . . an old farm where the barn is now caved in and only the foundation of the house and the cellar remain, along with the dairy barn that my Uncle Larkie built while we lived there. I had not visited there (Santa Rosa, MO) since I was a young teenager. I felt like I had somehow come full circle. The happiest days of my childhood were spent on that farm.
