The hour was late
The chance to sleep long past
She lay silently contemplating
This existence in which she found herself
Wishing for peace and finding none
Her thoughts as jumbled as the sheets
Wishes tumbling into hopes
And hopes
Falling shattered on the ground
Tripping over distant ambitions
Long since tumbled to the earth
From heights once so monumental
Oh to have back misspent youth
To remember long forgotten dreams
To once again feel that passion
The heat that now has cooled and fled
How she longed to once more travel
Down that path she once had ran
With glee and joy toward some distant future
And unknowingly toward this lonely bed
So early on the die was cast
Now the hour is late
The chance to live long past…
The chance to love long lost…
