Stranded

Winter escapes Autumn’s grip
delivering a blanket of deceptive beauty

Her dangerous touch reminds me of your love.

My thoughts, as stranded as a Winter traveler,
turn to you, then quickly melt into the unseen tomorrow

As I slowly approach the summit of our combined yesterdays,
I proceed with caution, knowing well
the hidden dangers of your touch.

With a single lapse of judgment, in a moment’s time,
I could find myself stranded in the ditch
which you have labeled love,
completely dependent upon another to rescue me.

I would rather depend upon myself…

An absolutely brilliant set of verses, Lori...the
metaphors (as Ace said) are 'outstanding.'
Glad I stopped by your pages. I have been so busy editing
and publishing that I haven't been able to comment on many
fine works such as this one.

I wonder. Are there any men around who are good guys? I wonder. Are all the women around good girls? I wonder.

Lori, It is our strength that pulls us through..even when someone else offers us a hand up, we still have be the one to reach for it.
Life is never easy..but then..would we really want it any other way?
Good write here Lori!

This is on spot, Lori, you are so right...always best to depend on ourself. If we trust that our security and happiness will be granted by/through another, we will fall into the most insecure and unhappy times of our life. Very nice work on this one.
Take care,
Sherry

Ooooo! Knife-edge feelings that make the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention as if on the alert! All antennae out here, looking for the exit whilst just making sure that there isn't something worth salving from all of this... One thing I think you will never be, Lori, is stranded - as long as you have your very acute wits about you! You have the sagacity of one who has travelled some of life's more dangerous and less-straightforward routes. I guess keeping the backpack light is a key to being able to carry one's own load... Astute and well-penned as always. TY Kate xx
