The Thorn's Caress

Pain
Only a petty spasm.
Grapple the reigns of contempt,
Maneuver around the rape
And underneath manage a smile.

He will never quite have her.
Obscured
A love
She never opens to him,
A frigid word still gives ear to her alone.

Weary
When he isn’t looking,
She collapses
From the scolding of promise,
Who berates her every move.
She pleads compassion.
Promise is unforgiving.

Delicate her shoulders,
So pale
So bare,
But for roses etched
Under her skin.

Into her lap
The roses bend,
And weep and weep and weep.
She wonders will she lift her head
To stop from drowning.

Naked
But for a slip of roses.
She wishes she could feel the thorns.
